Twala Grant Wallace- Interim Executive Director

Twala Grant Wallace currently serves as the Interim Executive Director of the program. Twala is a 1992 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. Prior to coming to VLB Twala was a solo practitioner for 26 years, interim municipal court judge and adjunct college and law school instructor. She began as a staff attorney with VLB in August 2019 and she was named Managing Attorney in late 2019. As Managing Attorney, Twala implemented a system of delivering pro bono services to qualified clients in civil matters during the Pandemic and ensured that low-income and underserved citizens of Jefferson County could continue to receive high quality legal advice during this trying time. The Birmingham Business Journal recognized Twala in its Best of the Bar recipients in 2020. As the only attorney from a non-profit to be honored, the BBJ emphasized her accomplishments during the Pandemic. In her role as Managing Attorney and Director of Programs and Partnerships, Twala has grown the scope of the services provided to VLB clients to include Community Education Seminars, Expungement and Wills clinics. She has worked in collaboration with the County Commission, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office (Birmingham and
Bessemer Divisions) and various other community partners in educational workshops with the goal of sustaining employment opportunities and stabilizing neighborhoods.

As she has been quoted many times, Twala encourages all members of the Bar and the Jefferson County community to “be the change that you wish to see in the world.”

Eric Vinsant- Interim Managing Attorney

Eric Vinsant is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a B.A. in philosophy. He began his journey in the legal profession obtaining his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2010. After working as an attorney in Tennessee for a number of years, he returned to Birmingham in 2019.

As a lawyer with years of experience, Eric was acutely aware of the challenges faced by low-income individuals and families in accessing legal services. He was drawn to Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham because of the organization’s commitment to bridging this gap and ensuring that everyone in the community had access to legal representation.

Since joining Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham, Eric has worked on a number of cases in every area of the law that the organization provides services to our clients. He has been impressed by the dedication of the organization’s staff and volunteers, who work tirelessly to help those in need.

Eric is proud to be a part of an organization that is making a real difference in the lives of people in the Birmingham community. He looks forward to continuing his work with Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham and helping to ensure that everyone has access to justice, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Lisa Singer- Senior Staff Attorney; Director of Homeless Advocacy

With a background in business litigation and a lifetime of volunteering, Lisa Singer was thrilled to join Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham as a staff attorney in 2019. She has a  passion for helping marginalized people, especially those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. She loves being part of a team helping lawyers make a difference in people’s lives

Lisa has a B.A. in English and American Literature from Brown University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia. Born and raised in the Northeast, she moved to Birmingham in 1993, and it quickly became her home. She is married to her UVA classmate, Tim Davis, and they have two grown children, Emma and Will.

In her free time, Lisa enjoys live music, hiking, kayaking, reading and traveling.


Breonna Garrett-Dunn- Interim Operations Director; Case Manager

Breonna Garrett-Dunn attended the University of Alabama graduating in 2014 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice and a minor in Social Work. She attended Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama. While attending law school she was a legal administrative assistant and paralegal with her focus area in domestic relations and federal criminal appeals. Breonna graduated in 2018 with her JD and Public Interest certification.

Breonna Garrett-Dunn returned to her native Birmingham and began volunteering at Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham Domestic Relations Help Desk while studying for the bar exam. In 2019 she began her career with VLB as the intake/closing coordinator and has transitioned to Case Manager and now the Interim Operations Director.

In 2021, Breonna married her college best friend, Brelan Dunn and welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Baileigh the following year.

Michelle Horn Brown- Volunteer Advocate; Interim Communications Coordinator

Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts at The University of Alabama and Juris Doctor at Birmingham School of Law. Michelle has over 20 years of non-profit experience due to her passion for women, children and the underserved members of our community. As the Volunteer Advocate and Communications Coordinator, Michelle assists in providing our volunteer attorneys the opportunity to provide critically needed legal services and access to justice to members of our community along with bringing awareness to the community of the legal clinics and additional legal services offered by Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham.
